Program Overview


The Master of Science in Civil Engineering online program was developed in 2002 and is taught by faculty from the UW departments of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Construction Management. With a unique focus on the heavy construction industry, this program gives you the engineering and management knowledge critical to lead major infrastructure projects. You will study a range of topics, including marine construction, cost estimating, utility construction, construction law, pavement construction, environmental regulations, cost analysis and more. You will also learn how to deal with changes in the field, such as the need to replace aging infrastructures, advances in technology and materials, environmental and energy concerns, legal issues and new management practices.

Program Format

Designed for working professionals, this program is offered completely online, and you can attend part or full time. To earn the degree, you must earn 42 graduate credits by successfully completing 14 courses. Students who take one course per quarter can complete the degree in three to four years. Once you are enrolled in the first course, you have five years from that quarter to finish the program, whether your status at the time of enrollment is matriculated or graduate nonmatriculated (GNM).
